Brief Bio of J.C. Flores Marker

Juan Carlos - or as his friends call him, J.C. - was the second youngest out of 10,000 invited by the Billy Graham Association to participate in this summer's Evangelism Conference in Amsterdam.

The youth group he has lead full time for the last 7 years has more than 300 youth involved in almost 30 small group Bible studies (for a salary of only $220 per month) and his heart's desire is to be a missionary to the Ukraine where he has lead two short term trips.

He write a monthly column on the web site helping youth leaders know how to use drama and the arts in their ministry. J.C's column has generated the most interest and response of any columnist on the web site.

Hi, I'm Juan Carlos Flores Marker (J.C.) and I was born 29 years ago in the city of Mexicali in the state of Baja California.

I met the Lord 13 years ago en "La Iglesia del Señor" church where I now serve fulltime in the area of the arts, social services and youth ministry. If you're wondering what's included in my arts ministry position, here goes: theatre, mime, clowning, jazz (music and dance), Jewish folkloric dance, Mexican folkloric dance, tambourines and flag corps.

Somehow I was also put in charge of our social services to the community which for us always includes evangelism as well as physical, educational and social needs. We work with street children, poor rural indigenous kids, teen and young adult reformatories. Compassion International, in part, funds our work with the indigenous kids... but that funding sure does come with a lot of paperwork.

Within the youth ministry area I have responsibility for the big weekly events, leadership training, discipleship, regional congresses and camps.

But what most stirs my heart is using the arts in evangelism and carrying all the aforementioned ministries to places where they don't exist or aren't being used... especially the Ukraine (as you'll see in my prayer requests below).

My Prayer Requests (J.C.)

9/25/00 - I've been invited by 3 different churches in the Ukraine to found an evangelism training center. Please pray that God would confirm my call as a missionary by guiding the leaders of my church to give me permission to go for at least 2 years

9/26/00 - that God would guide me to the girl that He has for me to marry

9/26/00 - for the new weekly youth event I've taken on at church. It's called "1730 - Your Moment" and is a large outreach event whose goal is to reach youth who wouldn't normally come to a church Bible study. We've been having around 200 people and 8 gave there lives to Christ last Saturday, which is great, but it's a lot of work

9/26/00 - that my pastors would give me permission to participate in a youth oriented evangelism crusade in Brazil that I've been invited to help with (all costs are covered but my pastors are reticent to let me go)

9/26/00 - that I grow in Christ and in love, humility, and sensitivity to others

9/26/00 - that God would keep me healthy physically

9/26/00 - that I would be able to carry out what I believe to be my call into missions
